Wellington Paranormal is a 30 minute mockumentary that follows a Paranormal Unit in Wellington.

It’s a supernatural comedy. The paranormal events are real and sometimes dangerous, but the level of danger is pretty much slapstick and the entire tone is light.

But it’s a Police Show

I had that bit of wariness too, but one thing Wellington Paranormal is not? Copaganda.

One of the primary sources of humor in the show is that the two members of the Paranormal Unit (yeah, there’s only two of them, although they occasionally pull in characters from outside) never notice anything. It’s like they are talking to the camera crew (remember it’s a mockumentary) and a giant monster pokes its head out of Wellington harbor right behind them and they don’t notice.

These cops can’t catch a cold.

Another source of humor is the departmental briefings, which are in many episodes, where the captain praises officers for such things as getting cats out of trees or finding a missing Mazda.

And (spoiler alert) there’s an episode where two cops get turned into zombies. They’re still working desk jobs. No member of the general public notices.
