What is Ecofascism — the Dark Side of Climate Change Activism
We’re all suffering from climate anxiety right now. Some of us are already suffering from the effects of climate change and the need to adapt.
Climate anxiety can lead to certain knee jerk reactions, of which the strongest is to just say “There are too many people.” And this can lead down a dark road that we have to avoid as we thread the needle between human civilization and protecting nature.
That dark road is ecofascism.
What is Ecofascism?
Ecofascism (which you will sometimes see spelled with a hyphen) is the bastard offspring of environmentalism and white supremacy.
Typically, ecofascism blames climate change on three things: Overpopulation, excessive movement of population, and over-industrialization.
It often leads to the belief that climate change isn’t necessarily bad if it reduces the human population and/or destroys industrial civilization.
Heard the phrase “Humans are the virus” lately? That’s pretty much a key tenet of ecofascism.
Ecofascism shifts the blame for climate change from large corporations to individuals and most especially to the poor. It’s people in India having too many babies, natch. It’s poor people using disposable…
