While I agree Martin and Rothfuss are annoying, I will note this:

Sometimes a publisher drops a series. Unless the author is self-published, they may not be able to finish the series. Doesn't apply to these two, but it does apply to others.

And if you don't buy the first two books, you increase the risk of this happening to the author, and imagine how it feels to *them*.
