Will Your Pet Need a COVID-19 Vaccine?
There have been reports all through the pandemic of pets getting COVID-19…both dogs and cats seem to be susceptible.
There have also been reports of big cats in zoos getting it. Thankfully, when cats do get COVID-19 it seems to be basically a cold. Minks and ferrets, however, can get very sick.
So, will we need an animal vaccine for COVID-19?
The answer may or may not be what you’re expecting.
The Animal Vaccine Against COVID-19
The fact is that we already have a vaccine against COVID-19 formulated for animals.
Yup. We started working on it right away. It’s a two-shot vaccine that was developed for mink, but in addition to mustelids, it appears to work on felines and apes.
Other vaccines may well be developed. Most animals who get it get similar symptoms to humans, but not generally as severe.
On Wednesday, Russia officially registered their animal COVID-19 vaccine.
