Yes. I was a wanted baby. I loved my mother.
I did not love watching her die slowly.
My point is that the changes pregnancy did to her were not temporary.
And of course some people are going to regret abortions. I also know people who regret having children.
But pregnancy is not temporary. There are long term changes even in a non-complicated, normal pregnancy. There are changes in hormones, metabolism, DNA (feto-maternal microchimerism, which can contribute to problems in subsequent pregnancies). It's just not.
If kids weren't so cute we'd never do it.
My point is that when you force somebody to go through a pregnancy you are forcing them to risk their life.
Something we don't ask anyone else to do. We don't force people to be living kidney or liver donors even if it is the only way to save their lives.
We don't force people to run into a burning building. We respect people who do, but we don't demand or even expect it of them.
