You definitely have a point, but I only use it when I feel that somebody is not trying hard enough to understand the experiences of minoritized people.

And I have to check *mine* sometimes. Believe me, I might be queer, Jewish, and a woman, but I'm still white to most people (except anti-Semites).

You are absolutely right that we haven't created a truly multicultural society.

But I am talking about minoritized people being forced to understand the dominant culture as a survival need.

Non-Native Blacks don't have a survival need to understand Native American culture.

Those who have power have an obligation to stop making understanding their culture a survival need, and that means understanding a bit of other people's culture so we actually know why "all boys must have short hair" is bad.
