You haven’t lived in the real world. I have had to ask permission to go to the bathroom in multiple jobs. I haven’t personally had a key logger installed, but I know people who do.

It’s hard to have a “better outlook” when you have no ability to call in sick, have to BEG to be allowed to go to the bathroom, zero breaks otherwise, are screamed at for being lazy if you are seen not actively working every second whether there’s anything to do are not, have your supervisor openly say women aren’t important regularly, and all of this for $7.25 an hour. It took me six months to find that job and if I hadn’t taken it I would have been evicted. Once you have eviction on your record, good luck getting housing again. I was also skipping meals to save money.

MANY people work to “not starve”. I have worked to not starve. I’m glad you treat your employees well, but you need to recognize that you speak from a place of privilege and good fortune. You have the savings, presumably, to be able to afford to quit without going hungry or losing your home.

Most of my friends have been trapped in crappy jobs. One was working 12–14 hour days and was informed that if her boss found out she was looking for another job she would be fired. I had to help her with her under the table search to get her out of there.

Another can’t quit his current job because he needs health insurance. The company he works for is completely incompetent and isn’t letting people take the time off if they get COVID-19. He’s high risk. He still can’t quit.

The real world isn’t your island of privilege. Most people aren’t that lucky…and most people who are that lucky are straight white men.
