"You're fired." You can't afford to live where you are. You also can't afford to move. You're now homeless on basic income.
If we're going to say "Get a job or move somewhere crappy" then we are letting employers decide whether somebody lives in a reasonably nice apartment...or a SRO roach motel. With their partner. And their kids. "Working homeless" is a thing in our society.
Decent housing is a human right.
(And then there's not FIRING the person, but paying them almost enough to live on. "Come into the office. But don't ask for a raise so you can live within an hour of the office" is happening to a lot of people now).
If basic income doesn't cover food, clothing, decent housing, internet and a little bit left over then it's not basic income.
I read your other post. It's an important discussion, but not *quite* what I was talking about.
