You’re slightly misunderstanding.

No flights are being added. They are simply changing the metal, and running jets on routes to which turboprops are more efficient, at a time when fuel prices are going up and reducing fuel use is becoming even more important for the environment.

Alaska’s pilot shortage is apparently a training issue that should be resolved soon, although I’m glad it didn’t affect my flight.
